Rumours spread about Britain’s forests

Rumours are spreading through the press about the government's plans for the Forestry Commission.

Anticipating a government announcement on the issue, Catherine Bearder MEP said, "I hope that rumours of a mass forest sell-off have been exaggerated."

"2011 is the International Year of Forests and we must use this year to promote sustainable management of our forests and our biodiversity."

"I hope that fears for South East forests will prove unfounded."

According the campaign group 38 degrees, there are ten forests in South East England that will be affected by government plans: the New Forest, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, West Harting Down, Blackdown Forest, Alice Holt Forest, Bramshill Forest, Crowthorne Forest, Mortimer Forest, Wendover Forest, and Bedgebury Forest.
