Yesterday Catherine Bearder MEP attended the UK launch of the European Year of Volunteering at the House of Commons.
Catherine, who spent many years working in the voluntary sector before being elected to the European Parliament, said afterwards, "This year we must do all we can to promote the voluntary sector in the UK."
"Volunteering is a great way for people to do some good in their communities, and during such difficult economic times it helps to bring a community closer together."
"I hope to visit a lot of voluntary organisations throughout 2011 and I'll do my best to encourage people to give up a day or two to go and help them. They do such good work and can do with all the help they can get."
