A photographed document from the Department for International (DIT) has revealed the government is planning to water down vital climate change and wildlife regulations.
Some of the EU's major environmental protection schemes include:
- Emissions Trading Scheme (covers 45% of EU's greenhouse gas emissions)
- Effort Sharing Regulation (covers non-ETS greenhouse gas emissionS)
- Birds and Habitats Directives (nature protection laws)
The European Parliament can veto any trade deal if it fails to maintain rigorous environmental protection and that includes any future UK deal.
