Like many other Brits who have retired to France I am concerned as to when I can apply for my “de carte de résident permanent”

Yes please. I am particularly interested in “associated European citizenship” as I feel aggrieved that I am being robbed of my European identity.

Those MEP’s who want the UK to leave, who were elected by the British Voters at the last EU Elections, should not have stood, as they are there to represent the UK and help make decisions that can benefit not only UK residents, but all Europeans.

I am the Logbook Scheme organiser for the Bass Anglers Sportfishing Society and a former Libdem Town Councillor in Newbury, West Berkshire. I am very frustrated by the recent decision to allow commercial catches of sea bass to continue at a rate far in excess of that recommended by fishery scientists. I am equally annoyed that sport anglers seem to have been disadvantaged by the arrangements agreed for 2016. It is ironic that sport anglers have done very badly in these arrangements, despite years of campaigning for bigger size limits, catch restrictions and better management of bass stocks. I fear that a consequence of these arrangements will be a protest vote from the UK’s million or so sea anglers in the forthcoming EU membership referendum.

The European Parliament’s tax payer funded liberal group is hosting their annual congress in the Hungarian capital with the express intention of destabilising the democratically elected right-wing government. Belgian MEP Guy Verhofstadt said Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban is a “dictator” and “the problem of Europe” who deserves “sanction”.

Other speakers – including the UK Liberal Democrat’s Catherine Bearder MEP – agreed with him at the meeting of the European Political Party for Liberal Democrat Values (ALDE) in Budapest.

    ’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

I am from England and far from criticising Viktor Orban I praise him from the rafters for being the ONLY political leader in the EU with the spine to tell the truth about the shameful disgraceful action of the mainstream leadership of Europe . YOU should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself and your compatriots for jointly destroying Europe and European values, although I am certain that that is your intention, God Help us. I hope more politicians like Mr Orban will have the courage to displace the totally inept , misguided and pathetic Politicians such as yourself.

    Vehicle Emissions standards

I agree with the previous commenter John Ruddy. There is no need to water down CO2, NOx or particulate standards, because there is a well-established and independently proven technology which meets (and far exceeds) all current Euro 6 limits.

A relatively simple modification to cylinder heads – with no moving parts or other complexity – means that petrol engines can exceed diesel fuel efficiencies (and so CO2) whilst producing extremely low level of NOx – around 10-30ppm compared to modern engines which produce around 3000ppm. Power output per engine size litre is around 90% that of diesel, but can easily be compensated by making the engine 10% larger.

Turbocharging or 2-stroke operation are both possible – the latter especially well suited for hybrid engines. Contrary to traditional petrol engines there is no corresponding increase in NOx arising from turbocharging. Exhaust EGR or Urea traps or catalytic converters are all unnecessary as the combustion is clean at source.

Ford Motor Corp. and Cosworth (prior to takeover by Mahle) both invested and developed the technology in the 1990s, but the 2001 diesel taxation changes made this “diesel alternative” technology irrelevant. Of course there was no consideration of NOx in those days – the sole objective was CO2 reduction.

Now that NOx and particulates are back on the agenda, this technology – now branded “Pure Burn” – is being re-launched. Yes I am an interested party as a director of Pure Burn, but regardless of whether we actually succeed in gaining Venture Capital funding or interest from the motor industry, the technology itself is sitting there waiting for someone (maybe the Koreans) to exploit.

The result would be the saving of many 100,000s of lives, reduction in CO2, and the continued viability of our growing cities.

The New WLTC Car Emissions Test Cycle is Not Good Enough

I worked for over 20 years as an Emissions Calibration engineer for Rover, BMW, & Jaguar Land Rover. I never witnessed any cheating. It is not necessary. I am amazed that VW have done this – why pay tens of millions $$$ for an emission calibration & end up with a Euro 6.5 billion liability – it is commercial madness.

I am not amazed that other test cycles produce many times the regulated limits. The EU NEDC cycle & the future WLTC are not fit for purpose. Their acceleration rates are way too slow. 0-30mph is 25 seconds on NEDC & a still hopeless 15 seconds on WLTC. No hill climbing, no accessory loads.

For diesels best fuel economy / CO2 comes with high NOx conditions. Once out of the regulated zone the calibration will make the engine a mega polluter.

For petrol it is not as bad, but current trends to downsize capacity, add turbocharging & use direct injection are all very bad for NOx & particulates.

Extra scrutiny & independent testing of vehicles will not improve air quality.

We are all currently choosing to poison ourselves & our children.

A representative driving cycle & appropriate limits are needed.

Current technology of petrol, petrol hybrid & electric can deliver excellent standards.

We can start today by enforcing speed limits in high pollution zones.

How can you possibly support TTIP? We won’t be happy until Great Britain is completely lost. We were fooled by the Thatcher privatizations and now you want to give power over anything remaining to an unelected and undemocratic bunch in the EU. This is very serious.

Your arguments on Daily Politics with respect to illegal immigrant invasion of Europe devoid of all common sense. How many is enough? One million two three, tens of millions or more? The illegal immigrant invaders look like young men from Africa not Syrian women and children. UN requires they apply at nearest safe country but instead they pass through numerous safe countries to reach us. Australia reduced invasion from 450 boats to 1 by sending them back! You are totally out off touch with ordinary people on illegal immigration, your dangerous and bigoted opinions support a policy of race replacement for indigenous Europeans which is usually described as genocide.

I am interested in your vocal support of a motion regarding FIFA and the forthcoming world cup competitions in Russia and Qatar. Please will you tell me an estimate of the number of man hours in the European parliament that are going into this motion (MEPs, commission employees, translators etc…). Given that European Parliament has no authority over FIFA, no Authority over any Football federations, and no powers to investigate anything. All you can do is “send a message” which FIFA are unlikely to even notice let alone act on.

I am very keen in how much of my money is going into this “message” and why you think it is money well spent.

I am concerned that you appear to be in favour of TTIP. Please explain. Thank you.
