This weekend (the 12th-13th February) is the National Specials Weekend and events will be taking place at police stations across the South East.
The Special Constabulary is an important part of the policing 'family'. The National Specials Weekend was first held in 2003. It is an annual event and all 43 police forces in England and Wales are being invited to organise their own events.
2011 is the European Year of Volunteering and the work that the Special Constabulary do is a great example of the crucial role that volunteers play in our society. They make our streets safer and they improve the relationship between police forces and the local communities they serve.
Contact your local police force to find out about an event in your area or find out more information about the weekend and becoming a Special Constable here.
