To mark EU anti-trafficking day and UK anti-slavery day, Catherine Bearder MEP is inviting residents from Oxford and beyond to learn "The Truth About Trafficking."
Catherine, who is hosting the event along with the University's European Affairs Society, has invited some excellent speakers.
Superintendant Bernie Gravett is the police lead on "Operation Golf", the EU funded Joint Investigation Team investigating human trafficking from Romania. Operation Golf has proved to be amazingly successful and just this week undertook a major operation safeguarding twenty eight trafficked Romanian children in east London on Tuesday morning (12 October).
Julia Immonen of Sky Sports was first introduced to the injustice of human trafficking several years ago and has subsequently launched a charity called "Sport Against Trafficking". Prior to the World Cup, Julia visited a safe house for trafficked women and children in Cape Town to see the effects that large sporting events such as the World Cup bring upon trafficked victims and came back determined that this should not be repeated in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games in the UK.
The event will also be launching Catherine's campaign to "Stamp out Trafficking at Our Olympics."
It is being held in the Harris Lecture Theatre at Oriel College and starts at 7pm this Saturday the 16th October.
