Today a High Court ruling declared Theresa May must have a vote in parliament before the process to leave the European Union can begin.
This goes against the Prime Minister’s initial plans to begin the Brexit process by triggering Article 50 without a vote by MPs.
Catherine Bearder MEP commented:
“This ruling shows it will not be possible for the government to leapfrog over parliament.
“The Leave campaign was all about ‘taking back control’ – yet I don’t think any of the people who voted leave meant to hand the control solely to our unelected Prime Minister.
“I have a vote myself in the European Parliament on the Brexit process and it is only right and proper that our MPs do too. This is a good day for democracy.”
