Catherine Bearder MEP has congratulated South East England's nominees for the national EnjoyEngland tourism awards.
Six organisations were nominated from across South East England - three from Hampshire, one from Berkshire, one from Oxfordshire and one from Kent. The Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton was nominated for Large Hotel of the Year; Tylney Hall in Hook was nominated for Outstanding Customer Service; Winchester was nominated for best Tourist Information Service; the Bay Tree Hotel in Burford was nominated for Small Hotel of the Year; the Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre in Faversham was nominated for Small Visitor Attraction of the Year; and Royal Ascot was nominated for Best Tourism Event of the Year.
Catherine Bearder MEP commented:
"I congratulate all our nominees for the EnjoyEngland awards and wish them the best of luck. They are great ambassadors for our county."
"Here in South East England we have some fantastic treats for tourists to sample. We have old market towns spread across some of the most beautiful countryside the UK has to offer, a coastline steeped with naval tradition and the unique New Forest. Oxford alone is the nation's biggest tourist spot outside of London."
"Since joining the EU, it has been easier for people from all over Europe to spend their holidays in Oxfordshire, and therefore spend their money in our shops and hotels. But we also need to encourage more people from the UK to spend their holidays with us. When everyone is cutting back on what they spend, there is no better time to take your holiday in the UK."
