Fishermen in Eastbourne met with Catherine Bearder MEP and Stephen Lloyd MP to discuss EU funding for their developments in Sovereign Harbour.
Catherine has been a long-term supporter of the Eastbourne fishermen since she was first elected in 2009 advising them on EU funding for development of their site but also standing up for them in Parliament to get the best deal for small-scale fishermen.
The team looked over plans for the development which will include retail spaces, stores for the fishermen's tack and an education centre.
The fishermen are in the process of purchasing the land from developers Carillion Developers and have full planning permission from the Council for the plans to go ahead.
Catherine is investigating EU funding streams to ensure the development can continue to progress.
Catherine Bearder commented: "These fishermen are the life-blood of Sovereign Harbour and have been there for years.
"I'm doing everything I can to protect them from harsh quota cuts and to ensure they get the EU funding they deserve for their exciting developments which will secure the long term future of the harbour."
Stephen Lloyd added: "I am fully on board with supporting Graham Doswell and fellow fishermen in Sovereign Harbour.
"I have been working with them for some time to ensure the project progresses and that the Eastbourne fishing fleet gets the support and funding they so deserve.
"I look forward to the day when the whole up to date fishing area is completed. It will enhance Sovereign Harbour enormously, and ensure the fleet has a long and productive future."
