On Friday, Catherine Bearder MEP, visited Worthing, to highlight that 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering and visit two organisations that depend on volunteers.
Projects Abroad work hard to support volunteers and help them to make a real difference to communities both at home and abroad. They're a family-run business, based in Worthing that has grown to offer over 100 generic volunteering placements and a wide choice within these placements, they are now the world's leading overseas volunteering and gap-year organisation.
After the visit Catherine commented:
"As 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering I want to encourage as many people as possible to volunteer their time to help others."
"Here in Worthing, Projects Abroad have a fantastic team of committed volunteers who are making a great deal of difference to communities in the developing world."
"For some countries, the difficult economic period the UK is facing is a permanent state of life. Every year Projects Abroad has 8,000 volunteers helping these communities all over the world."
Catherine also visited the Maybridge Keystone Centre, a community centre that makes a real difference in the lives of local residents, particularly the young people they work with almost every day.
Maybridge depends on over twenty volunteers to ensure that it is able to continue running and owes it's very existnace in the fantastic new facilities that Catherine visited to those willing to volunteer their time to help in their community.
