Euro MP for the South East region, Catherine Bearder visited Portsmouth harbour area on Saturday 16th April. She came to the new passenger terminal to see the brand new facilities that have been built to serve the thousands of passengers who travel through Portsmouth every year.
"I was very impressed with the new terminal, it is bright and open and has many environmental features. It will be a pleasant and efficient place for passengers to arrive and depart. I am sure the City of Portsmouth are very proud of this new terminal" said Catherine.
While she was at the terminal, Catherine also met with representatives from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Brittany Ferries. She was briefed about the way the coasts off the area are managed by the MCA and the plans they have for safety and monitoring of shipping. She was also told about concerns that the Ferry companies and other shipping operators have as a result of European directives on fuel regulations that effect shipping servicing Portsmouth.
Catherine has promised to take up these concerns with the Commission on behalf of the Ferry companies.
