Local MEP Catherine Bearder has met with Eurostar to find out what improvements they've made to their service since the Christmas travel chaos
The independent report reviewed the problems that occurred over Christmas 2009 when Eurostar trains were stranded inside the Channel Tunnel for hours with no power.
Mrs Bearder, whose constituency includes the UK end of the euro tunnel and two Eurostar train stops, attended the launch of the independent report and on behalf of her Kent constituents has put pressure on Eurostar to implement all the changes recommended. A year on from then, Mrs Bearder now wants to hear exactly what has been done since the independent report was published.
After the meeting Mrs Bearder commented, "Last year I called on Eurostar to implement all the recommendations of the independent report into the travel chaos when 2,000 people were trapped for over eight hours in the Channel Tunnel before Christmas 2009."
"Eurostar had significant changes to make to raise their customer care standards to the high level we see in the airline industry. Staff training needed to be prioritised with regards to safety and general customer care."
"I'm pleased to see that Eurostar have made some very positive changes to improve their service."
"I congratulate Eurostar for their efforts over the last year, but I remind them there is more to be done. I am confident that lessons have been learned."
"The problems we saw over Christmas 2010 were nowhere near as bad as the year before, but they highlighted there are still improvements that need to be made."
